Supported

I was in Vancouver recently participating in an Anusara Yoga Immersion with master instructor Chris Chavez. It was the morning of the fourth day of training and I was tired and longing to go home. I called a taxi to take me to the hosting studio. The taxi driver asked where I was going and I told him I was heading to yoga.

“Oh Yoga! I love the Yoga! I do it everyday. It used to be I had very bad pain in my hands – arthritis, you know. But not anymore. It used to be I drank too much. But not anymore. It used to be I had diabetes and had to take the medication but not anymore. It’s all because of the Yoga I did a complete lifestyle change.”

I was moved and taken aback by this serendipitous meeting and commended him on his courageous quest for health. We pulled up outside the studio and the taxi driver turned around and looked me in the eye and said very seriously, ” You keep doing the Yoga. It’s good for you.”

Support comes to us in all kinds of ways: friends, family, co-workers. They root for us as we embark on new paths or when we re evaluate the ones we are on. They sometimes even give us a booster shot of a reminder in the back of a taxi cab in strange cities.

In what ways have you felt support recently?

Now

Now
This moment is all I got
The rays of sunshine bathe my feet in warmth
The birds are chirping as cars pass by
How can I be a better human being today?
Love and allow yourself to be loved.
How can I live more fully?

Be still. Watch. Listen.
There are moments of clarity in the quiet spaces Be open to inspiration Feel without shame or shyness
Emotions and thoughts shape-shift
as I watch their temperature and intensity soften
This moment is perfect in all its sadness, reflection and celebration
I want to escape it somehow
but I’ll sit with it and
bear witness to it’s hugeness instead
