Mandala Salutation & Meditation

In various spiritual traditions, mandalas are a sacred space and used as spiritual tools.  They are often geometric patterns created as symbols for meditation, protection and healing. The Sanskrit meaning of “mandala” is both “circle” and “centre”, implying that a mandala represents both the visible world outside of us and the deep invisible world inside our minds and bodies.

Some believe the symbolic nature of the mandala can help one “to access progressively deeper levels of the unconscious”, and in fact Carl Jung believed the mandala was a “representation of the unconscious self”. 

Let’s create a sacred space on our mats, designing a mandala with our bodies, going deeper each time as we circle our mats with our asanas and engage our thoughts with each action.  We will follow the practice with a mandala meditation.

Morning will include:  Tensegrity Series ( A sequence to strengthen the small stabilizers, lengthen and tone the psoas, and tug open the fascial lines in the
body) A very grounding practice and wonderful for all. Meditation/Pranayama. Gentle Dynamic Asana Practice (using rounded natural movements, playful images of nature, and a non-dogmatic approach.) Deep relaxation.

Lydia has been sharing yoga for nearly 10 years. She currently co-owns a studio in beautiful Squamish, B.C., where she studies with Gioia Irwin. Gioia has
created the Tensegrity Series. She is inspired by Thomas Myers’ myofascial meridians, Gill Hedley, and her countless quiet hours with nature.

Bill will guide us through Laya Yoga Kriyas which will have the effects of deep relaxation of mind and body.  All Savasana, no asana (physical yoga).  If you love guided relaxation and meditation and need stress reduction, this workshop is for you!

Bill Phillips first became interested in meditation in 1963 while reading C.G. Jung.  He has studied with Dr. Swami Gitananda Giri, founder of Yoga Life and one of South India’s most famous ashrams. It was from Swami Gitananda that Bill learned the set of kriyas known as Laya Yoga. Laya Yoga comes from both Vedic and Tantric teaching, emphasizing the 5^th through 8^th limbs of Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi. As a Zen student Bill was given the dharma name Tozan and as a Yoga sadhaka the devotional name Shantideva. He has been practicing Laya, Raja and Jnana Yoga for over 45 years.

Thursday Nov 3, 6-8pm Efficiency: Get free. Powerful dynamic alignment in a moving, meditative practice.

Friday Nov 4, 11-1pm Invent: Intermediate/Advanced full spectrum practice. Must be able to do Wheel Pose with straight arms and kick up to Handstand against the wall…or want to learn how to work hard to do those two things.

Friday Nov 4, 5-7pm Reflectivity: Therapeutics and restoratives Anusara style.
